A Spring Escape: Tulip Fields Near Seattle

Seattle winters can feel like an endless stretch of gray skies and drizzle, but by the time March rolls around, there’s a hint of change in the air. The days grow longer, the temperatures inch upward, and even for those of us who don’t mind the rain, a little variety is always welcome.

One of my favorite ways to celebrate the shift into spring is with a quick trip north—about an hour and a half from Seattle—to the tulip farms in the Mount Vernon area. Each year, these farms burst into vibrant color, transforming the landscape into a breathtaking sea of blooms.

Visiting the tulip fields always feels like stepping into a living painting. The return of flowers is a reminder that brighter days are ahead—literally and figuratively. Just weeks ago, these same fields were cold and barren, but now they’re alive with rows upon rows of tulips in every shade imaginable. The farm I visited was expansive, offering not just stunning floral displays but also a cozy refreshment area where visitors could warm up with cider and grab a bite to eat.

Of course, no trip to the tulip fields is complete without a little adventure in search of the perfect photo. It was amusing to see so many people carefully navigating the fields, all hoping to capture that Instagram-worthy shot. Fortunately, everyone was pretty courteous, taking turns and making space for the next group of tulip admirers.

If you’re looking for a refreshing way to welcome spring, I highly recommend making the drive to see the tulips. There’s something magical about witnessing the first real signs of the new season—especially when they come in such a dazzling array of colors.

Have you been to the tulip fields before? I’d love to hear about your experience! 🌷✨
